UTA Bratislava
The University of the Third Age under the auspices of Comenius University was established in 1990 as the first institution of this kind in the Slovak republic. UTA is located at the Centre of continuing education at Comenius University in Bratislava. The UTA generally offers a three-year program in more than 30th specialised branches. Study courses are prepared according to the cooperation with the faculties and departments of Comenius University. There are also some subjects realised together with the University of Economics and Slovak Agricultural University. The cooperation is established on the contacts through the Slovak Association of UTAs (www.uniba.sk/asociaciautv). Students of our UTA are together organised in their Club, where they organise own activities, meetings with the famous persons and politicians, trips and excursions by themselves. Yearly almost 1800 students - seniors enroll in 56 study groups. After completing their study, students are ceremonially given certificates.
Comenius University already participated as a partner in the international Grundtvig projects eLiLL (http://www.elill.net/) and EUCONET (www.gemeinsamlernen.de/euconet) which focused on the PC literacy of elderly people, using Internet for learning and for daily life of seniors and organisation ICT courses mainly for retired people. UTA has experience also as a coordinator of the project EFOSEC ((http://www.efos-europa.eu/efosec-e/) managed in 2006 and 2007 according to the contacts in the European Federation of Older Students (EFOS) http://www.efos-europa.eu. This project focused on the methodology and study systems of learning elderly at the universities.
At the present our UTA is a partner in the project Grundtvig VECU http://www.efos-europa.eu/vecu-e/ and students participate on the project Danube Networkers.
