The University of Ulm led a successlul bid to the EU Grundtvig Programme for the funding, 2008 -2010, for a learning partnership under the title 'Danube-Networkers'. The proposal was for seniors' groups in the old and new EU countries of the river Danube region to work jointly on selected themes concerning the Danube through texts, images and video clips. More recently, the University of Ulm, on behalf of project partners and other educational organisations, made a submisssion to the EU consultation on a Strategy for the Danube Region. The main themes of the submission were that the population of the Danube region is rapidly ageing; older adults are valuable human capital; lifelong learning is a necessity for them and is a bridge between science and society; ICT ofters great opportunities for learning and social participation; projects such as Danube Networkers demonstrate the value of bringing together lifelong learning for older adults, ICT and cross-border cooperation.
