Interview with Gheorghe Chivu
Text: Gheorge Chivu
We would like to discuss a bit about the Danube river ....Do you have any impression, any special memory about this river passing through Romania?
Yes I have many memories, I would like to recount one of the most nice related to the Portiţa, in the Tulcea County. This locality was between Danube and Black Sea, with a wonderful landscape.
Then, please tell us in more details about this memory of yours...
I am member of the team in Danube Network project and I would like to tell you one of the nice memories I have about Danube. But first let me introduce myself!
I am Gheorghe CHIVU and actually I am retired. In 1978 I was married and I had two girls. Together with my wife and a group of friends we decided to go in Danube Delta for few days of vacation. We got ready for the trip, and embarked in 3-4 touring cars we left to the place called Portiţa, in Tulcea County.
After one day journey, at the sun set we reached our destination. The Danube's splendor has overwhelmed us! It was for the first time when I was meeting the beautiful river, so much sung by the poets and loved by so many people! We quickly settled our tents and started preparing the barbeques.
After dinner, inspired probably by the beauty of the place and by Danube's flowing, happy that finally we succeeded to meet the Danube, we started singing, some of us a bit shy, others with strong voices.
One of the friends who were with us brought and accordion and started accompanying us. Quickly, other tourists gathered around us, we arranged the cars in a circle and because it was already dark we turned the headlights on.
Some couples started dancing and finally have „contaminated" the others too. The night was turned into a real party!
There were, I believed, over 50 persons singing and dancing about the Danube and in a way together with the Danube!
The Danube was transmitting us joy and ardor, animating and stimulating us!
It has been a wonderful night, an unforgettable experience! At that time, I think, I have irreversibly felled in love by Danube and by its beauties!
Thank you for sharing with us this lovely memory!
I am happy that I succeeded to make known to the other this story which happened on the shores of Danube and to evoke some of the great river's beauties.
