Bridges over the Danube - Erbach at Danube
Text / Photo(s): Monika Bader-Scheck
In
1979 we moved from Ulm to Erbach at Danube. However, I did not know that there are so many
bridges and walkways.
When my son was born in 1986, I travelled a lot with him,
first with him in the baby carriage, later with childrens-bicycle and then with
the bicycle. The way always led us towards the Danube
and from there to the reservoir. One could observe there a huge number of water
birds, watch the anglers in the summer, or sit in an old moored boat and dream
about “adventures”…I have discovered there and beautiful birch trees, whose
trunks were shaped wonderfully and watch the water or the sky!
Near Erbach is a great number of Danube side arms, and in a
renaturation activity in recent years, a whole new landscape was created. It is
used for recreational opportunities by all who love the water – the water and
its surroundings are a real paradise ...
The Danube connects us with people who in the
former times came from countries along the Danube
here and have started new here in Erbach. This
residential area, where some descendants still live today, the resettlers, is
called "Heckle," and the people who then moved to Erbach, the
so-called "Danube Swabians" and also "Bannat-Schwaben".
Many families have settled here in Erbach, have
built houses here and are tightly fused with the Erbach-people.
Also in my sports
group, there are many friendships between Romanian, Yugoslav and Hungarian
women and their families.
I like living here and am looking forward to new contacts
and connections with other people on the Danube
and around it.
