The „Lobau“ - in the eastern region of the 22nd district of Vienna - is one of the last natural resorts Europes, which a size of 5683 acres. The Lobau is since 1996 a part of the National Park „Donau-Auen.

This 22nd district of Vienna is called „Donaustadt“ and is situated nearby the Danube River. Lobau has its name from the ancient german word „Wasserwald“ (Waterforest).

The River Danube has been forced in a new channel by a regulation in 1870 in the region of Vienna. Because of that regulation the former arms of the Danube have no connection to the river anymore. As a result many wonderful lakes remain which are now a natural bathing-resort for the Viennese people. The “Nationalpark Donauauen” reach like a green belt from Vienna to the Slowakian border.
