Old Traditions – New Ideas

The meander of the river Danube near Schlögen (1) is famous for its special arrangement. All members of the family Witti were carrying on this traditional business of constructing these boats called "Zillen". Recently also a project of ecology was started.

(1) In 2008 this „Schlögener Schlinge"was appointed as a Natural Monument. It was developed when the river was digging its riverbed. At first there was soft material, but later on there was resistance of the granite. Now the narrow valley of the Danube is there nearly circular and its depth is up to 300 meter.
